Fairview Staff Encourages Reading
Posted by bookend on March 17, 2007
Staff also check books out of the LMC. Tracking the number of books that patrons check out of the library is part of the encouraging strategy. During the month of February, staff checked out 246 materials. When students see staff using the library, they will “catch” the idea that reading has value.

Your blog has some great information for your teachers and parents. I like the list of all the magazines and a summary of each. I’m always looking for other websites to add to my ever growing list and have found some here. Have you thought about listing teacher professional development materials (like you did with the magazines) into your blog or wikispace and enable teachers who have used them to comment on them or add summaries to them. Although given all the time constraints, I don’t know how many responses you might get. I have a question about the Meta tag on your blog. How is that different from a link? I’m also interested in the Ebooks discussion you had. Are the Ebooks only allowed on the LMC computers and not the whole school because of the cost of a site license? I have been compiling some free sites that have stories on them. There are a couple of my students who enjoy reading on the computer more than from a paper copy, could it be the start of a shift? I’d be happy to share what I have found with you, unfortunately I’m at home and those are on my computer at school. Another question I have is what equipment and knowhow do you need to start up Podcasting? My blog is at http://teaching2ndgrade.blogspot.com if you’d like to respond. You are definitely leading by example many ways to incorporate technology into Fairview.

Ann,
What a great resource and strategy that you are implementing and using at Fairview! Great information. Encouragement is a great tool to prmote collaboration. I am looking at pursuing library media, and your site provides some great information and thought-prooking questions. Thanks Ann.
